AMENDMENTS TO DRIVER ED RULES ADOPTED.   Driver and Vehicle Services has amended several administrative rules relating to driver education, and with their publication in the State Register on November 23, the amended rules are now law. The amendments include several additions to the driver's ed curriculum, as well as minor clarifications and updates. Click here for details.                                       
"GOLD STAR FAMILY" PLATE HONORS MINNESOTANS KILLED IN ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY. Surviving spouses or parents of a fallen soldier may display "Gold Star Family" license plates beginning October 1. Apply by mail or at a deputy registrar office. The plates are subject to standard fees, but carry no additional charge. (more)
NEW DNR CRITICAL HABITAT LICENSE PLATES. Four new Critical Habitat license plate designs are now available to Minnesota motorists. In addition to the familiar loon and deer designs, you may choose to order the colorful Anglers, Deer, Chickadee, and Buck designs by mail or through all deputy registrar offices statewide. (more)
MIDWAY DRIVER'S LICENSE OFFICE RELOCATED TO DOWNTOWN ST. PAUL. The DVS exam station at 1472 University Avenue closed Thursday, March 26, 2009. It relocated to Town Square, Street Level, 445 Minnesota Street on March 30, 2009. (more)
REPORT TO MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE

REQUEST FOR COMMENT. Driver and Vehicle Services is considering amending the administrative rule that governs the cancellation or denial of driving privileges for people who have experienced losses of consciousness or voluntary control. (more)

MINNESOTA LICENSE PLATES GO DIGITAL. It began in April 2008 and will take several years, but eventually all Minnesota license plates will be flat instead of embossed. The new plate has black letters, which creates higher contrast and greater readability.
NEW SESQUICENTENNIAL PLATES. Commemorate Minnesota's 150 years of statehood with the new Sesquicentennial license plates. The plates are available at all deputy registrar offices. Cost is $35 plus an $8.50 filing fee.

NEW TEEN DRIVING LIMITATIONS
New laws took effect on August 1, 2008, that help newly licensed teens hone their driving skills during the first year of licensure by reducing exposure to two high-risk situations: driving late at night and carrying multiple teen passengers.
